Tank recoatingInduron Protective Coatings recently partnered with LC United to complete a major tank recoating project for Aqua Illinois in Knox County, with engineering oversight provided by Farnsworth Group.

The project challenges

This project presented a unique set of challenges, including the need for metal repairs, full interior and exterior blasting with containment, and tight space limitations due to the small site footprint. Additionally, it was a LEAD-certified project, requiring strict adherence to environmental and safety standards.

The coatings solution

Despite these complexities, LC United’s crew, led by a skilled foreman, successfully completed the weld repairs, blasting, and recoating of the tank in just 10 days.

Coating System Overview:

Exterior:

–Cermaprime– Primer that provides excellent adhesion and surface protection.

  –PE70 – High-performance epoxy intermediate coat.

–Permagloss – Durable and glossy topcoat for long-lasting protection.

Interior:

  – PE70 – Epoxy coating for superior corrosion resistance.

  – Stripe coat of PE70 – Ensured extra protection on edges and welds.

  – TL70 – Final interior coat, offering long-term durability in immersion service.

The quick turnaround was made possible, in part, by Induron’s Cermaprime, which played a pivotal role in the exterior coating process.  With Ceramaprime, Induron distilled the performance of thick-film ceramic epoxy liners into a thin-film primer expanding existing ceramic epoxy technology by offering a primer that increases efficiency, worker safety and long-term performance.

Ceramaprime boasts a 45-minute time-to-recoat, a one-year maximum recoat window and low moisture vapor permeability. This NSF-approved product also mitigates undercutting corrosion, offers over four hours of pot life, cures hard enough for fabricators to stack steel plate in only seven hours and can be easily applied with standard airless spray equipment to both atmospheric and immersion exposure substrates. Plus, Ceramaprime eliminates exposure to reactive metals and isocyanates!

The foreman noted Ceramaprime was a game changer for the project. “It was extremely easy to use, went on great, and really helped us stick to the tight schedule,” he said. He further mentioned that he would love to incorporate Cermaprime into more future projects due to its outstanding performance.

The project outcome

This successful project highlights Induron’s commitment to providing protective coatings that stand up to the toughest environments, all while supporting contractors in maintaining efficiency, even on demanding job sites.
